Export from Arkio to other 3D formats

Arkio supports exporting to OBJ, GLB, and native Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp files using our bidirectional plugins. Sometimes other export formats are needed, depending on your use case and 3D programs.

Your geometry can be exported as mesh or solid CAD data using our plugins. Here are some steps to prepare your geometry in other 3D formats

Solid CAD

The best way to get Arkio models to other solid 3D CAD formats is by using our Revit plugin Revit - Arkio

After you have loaded your Arkio model into Revit, you can adjust the geometry and remove/hide any geometry you don't need.

Then hit Export > IFC if you want to export a model to load into other BIM coordination tools.

You can also Export>Cad Formats>DWG (export as AECS solids for clean 3D CAD geometry)

This should give you a 3D DWG file from your scene that can be imported into most 3D CAD and BIM applications as solid, further editable CAD geometry.

Mesh

Meshes are often used in game development. They can be created from Arkio as gltf/GLB and OBJ files. Both are universal formats widely accepted by most 3D apps and can be converted to other mesh formats using online conversion tools like Convert3D or mesh-editing applications like Blender and 3ds Max.

Blender is a free software for editing and converting meshes, including Arkio exported GLB files. You can clean up the geometry you don't want by hiding objects, editing the mesh, changing the mesh materials, or adjusting the models' Axis orientation and scale.

After your mesh looks good, you can export the geometry to your required format. Blender supports various formats, including FBX, USD, DAE and STL

For complex and large scenes, CAD editing tools are more versatile, so loading your Arkio exports into tools like Rhino and Revit first makes it easy to convert to other CAD or mesh formats.

Rhino can convert geometry to more than 50 CAD and Mesh formats and offers a 90-day free trial. You can find an overview of all their supported file types on their website.
