General Troubleshooting

When Arkio doesn't start correctly in VR on Windows, or when controller issues occur, it's often because the headset runtime isn't properly initialized. Please follow these steps to ensure your VR hardware starts correctly on your PC

  1. Make sure the headset is connected, turned on and works correctly for other PC VR apps

  2. Reboot your system and software (Meta Horizon Link, SteamVR, WindowsMR) and make sure only a single instance of your VR driver software is running

  3. If you are using a Meta Quest, try running Arkio from the Meta PC VR store. This will use Meta’s headset drivers. Run Arkio from Steam to use SteamVR headset drivers. If Arkio starts correctly in your headset on those stores, you likely have an issue with your system's OpenXR settings.

  4. Running Arkio from our Windows installer will look for your OpenXR settings to start Arkio in the correct headset. Confirm your PC's default OpenXR runtime is set to your main headset. A notification should appear in the Meta Quest Link or the SteamVR app to help you set this correctly. You can set this manually by going to Meta Quest Link > Settings > General

5. Sometimes, the default OpenXR runtime on your system was altered by other installations. Disabling or removing older runtimes and drivers can help Arkio start the correct headset.

6. If previous headset installations changed your system settings. Manually restoring your OpenXR settings might be needed. There are also tools to help you switch between your OpenXR runtime settings if you have many headsets installed on your system.
